Destiny's Former Designer leaves Bethesda and Returns to Bungie
-----------Destiny's former designer, Josh Hamrick, confirmed on Twitter that after a year spent at Bethesda Game Studios, he will return to Bungie to work on Rise of Iron and Destiny 2.
After a lot of hand wringing with the Destiny community, senior designer Josh Hamrick announced that he is leaving Bungie in order to work at Bethesda. Destiny has its ups and downs, no doubt about that, but the community has largely credited Hamrick with many of the online shooter's good qualities, including a lot of work around the game's gun-play and sandbox elements.
Now it appears that Hamrick is going home, after a year of work at Bethesda. He confirmed his return to Bungie on Twitter and the recent turn of events is met with excitement on the Destiny subreddit.
Hamrick put a lot of work into Fallout 4 for Bethesda before its release last November. Bethesda credited him with designing Fallout 4's PlayStation Vita controls for Remote Play, a feature that Hamrick had previously worked on during his session at Bungie. His name came up again when it was revealed that much of Fallout 4's gun-play was inspired by Destiny. Fallout 4 put much more focus on combat that was based purely on action by revamping the VATS system and a lot of fans thought this was a leading reason why Hamrick was recruited away from Bungie.
Game developers never reveal information about the decisions they make, so it's very unlikely that fans are going to get an explanation for why Hamrick went back to Bungie. It could be because of the opportonuty to work on Destiny 2, which may have proven to be irresistible for Hamrick. He was a crucial member of the team in the vanilla version of Destiny, and Destiny 2 will be Bungie's opportunity to make a full reset on the franchise and have a fresh start once again. As for now, Destiny fans will have to wait and see.
Vanilla Destiny is now out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the next expansion, Rise of Iron, will probably release somewhere near September 20 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
