Final Fantasy 14 Expansion Coming October 2016

Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy 14's producer, said that Square Enix is going to announce the next expansion for Final Fantasy in October. He said this during an interview with a Japanese publication.

Final Fantasy fans expected the expansion somewhere near September 30 but Square Enix recently said that a different major title in the Final Fantasy franchise will make headlines this autumn, short after XV ships.

The producer of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn confirmed that the next expansion for the game will be announced at October Fan Fest in Las Vegas. Siliconera had to translate an interview Yoshida gave to Game Watch - a Japanese publication in order to get the details.

Game Watch asked Naoki Yoshida whether an expansion was planned for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. He didn't hesitate to answer and went straight to the paint. He said: "That's correct, this is a game supported by a big circle of dedicated Final Fantasy fans, so sharing the news along with fans at Fan Festivals is our top priority."

This isn't the first time Square Enix used the Final Fantasy Fan Festival to announce an expansion for "A Realm Reborn." Final Fantasy's expansion, Heavensward was announced in 2014 at the Final Fantasy Fan Festival and it got released the next summer. Judging by this, the players will most likely be able to head into Patch 4.0 no later than the middle of 2017, during the summer season. Naoki Yoshida discussed where the story will be going after Heavensward wrapping up to the Dragonsong storyline.

There are very few details about the next expansion for Fantasy 14, but it will be interesting to see how Square Enix will change the game's difficulty. Heavensward offered way more difficult battles than the original game, which force Yoshida and the team to nerf some of those encounters.

Besides the new expansion for Final Fantasy 14, Yoshida said that his team has started working with Microsoft in order to bring the game to Xbox One. Before E3 2016 it was impossible to bring cross-platform to Xbox One, but things are changed now.
