Microsoft and Square Enix Are "Happy" With Rise of the Tomb Raider
-----------"Crystal and Eidos Montreal made a game we are proud of."
According to Rise of the Tomb Raider game director Brian Horton Microsoft and Square Enix are "very happy" with how the Xbox timed-exclusive adventure game turned out. Posting on the Tomb Raider forum thread Horton said that it's not his place to discuss business performance. He explained that he's more interested in review scores, which were generally strong.
"There was suggestion in the thread that the reported sales numbers reflect poorly on the dev team," he said (via NeoGAF). "Square/Microsoft are happy with Crystal and [co-developer Eidos Montreal] and the game itself. As to the topic of sales, I'm unqualified to discuss it so I won't have anything else to say on this thread."
In another message, he added:
"Microsoft and Square are very happy with Rise and the dev team, thanks for the concerns. Crystal and Eidos Montreal made a game we are proud of and we appreciate the overwhelming number of positive reviews and fan feedback."
Horton also said that the team is looking forward to The Game Awards this week, where Rise of the Tomb Raider is nominated for Best Action/Adventure game and Best Performance for Camilla Luddington, who plays Lara Croft.
"Hopefully it's just the beginning of the recognition Tomb Raider and Lara Croft receives this year," he said. "It's cool to see her on top again for the second game in a row. We're all fans and for me it's been the honor of my career to be a part of such a fantastic legacy. Next year 20th Anniversary!"
Rise of the Tomb Raider launched on November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game comes to PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016.
