Sony on Making H1Z1 Fair for all Players

Performance enhancing items will not be purchasable in the upcoming zombie-survival free-to-play MMO H1Z1.

On a post on the game's game's dedicated subreddit, Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley confirmed players will not be able to purchase performance enhancing items in H1Z1.

"We will NOT be selling Guns, Ammo, Food, Water... i.e. That's kind of the whole game and it would suck in our opinion if we did that," Smedley wrote. "Nor will we sell boosts that will impact [that point]."

Instead wearable items in addition to those that can be crafted in the game will be available, which Sony believes will be a "good, fair revenue generator."

In order for the game to keep its survival theme, Sony plans to allow players to loot items from one another, including those purchased with premium currency. However player who loots will get a copy of the item with limited durability, while the player who purchased that item will get to keep their original item.

"So if a player has a black ski mask and gets killed by another player, that player can wear the ski mask for a few deaths," Smedley said. "This gives the great feeling of whacking some unsuspecting fool who decided to bring a knife to a gun fight."

H1Z1 was announced earlier this month, and has yet to receive a release date.
